A maddening knocking was created by helijohn
Which seems to be the back door catch or maybe the hinges. It sounds just like a door rattling (reminds me of a window in a house rattling in the wind) but I can't think of a way of checking if it is the door other than taking the bugger right off. :(

I've tried checking the door for float on the hinges but they have no slack at all. I've tried adjusting the striker plate right up...........no use.

There is nowt in there to cause this sort of heavy sounding knock but I think it is worth taking the card right off and driving the motor.

Could it be a baffle in the exhaust box?? The exhaust has gotten more rorty in the last few months. I have to admit my first thought was that the exhaust box was banging against the chassis - it is that sort of sound.

stick a cushion between the door frame and the rear door then tie the door shut and make a short drive to listen for the knock.

will rule out the door catch and hinges at least and probably help you get closer to locating the sound source.

that's what I'd try anyway.

A baffle is quite possible, have you checked underneath? I would think that a broken shock or similar would be more likely, my rear door doesn't close properly but it doesn't rattle.
Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.
