It is my understanding he floged his shares to the BBC in 2012 for 8 million then started to get more controversial for some reason

Leaving aside whether he is popular or not at the end of the day this was gross misconduct and as he was already on a final warning he was sacked.
I doubt anyone in a normal workplace would have even got that far before being sacked so he has had plenty of chances to sort himself out.

I think he's got what he deserved. He is a buffoon. He won't suffer for it though, and I'm sure the end result of this will be more motoring shows will exist in the future rather than less. That's always a good thing.

I honestly can't see it being anything other than deliberate. on the same coin, can you imagine the probability that of the few 928s to pick from, he managed to buy one that the whole registration just happened to strike a painful chord with the Argentineans?

I wouldn't be surprised if it comes out at some point that the reg was bought as a private plate some time around the time of filming. :whistle:

I gave up on Top Gear a long time ago and frankly I thought it embarrassing the antics they got up to especially abroad.
My main gripe was that it turned from any semblance of a car show to some sort of comedy parody.
Too much emphasis on supercars. If they just had a section on everyday "normal" cars without ridiculing them I might have seen some balance but alas that was abandoned after series one.
I for one won't miss it but as said I expect Sky or someone will offer them shedloads of money to carry on although I understand the BBC will be watching any similar show with interest as they own the rights to the format!!

great program and for all the stupidity and political incorrectness I guess for an hour a week its what many people needed before going back to work on a Monday.. how will work Mondays go now without top gear to talk about!...

I cannot condone workplace violence and for that reason Clarkson deserved to get the boot.. and he knows it...

that said the reason top gear and its team are so well loved is because they push the boundaries to the limit and occasionally beyond.. my final view is:

BBC - you lived on the success of this program and all the controversy that comes out of it and then chop it when an internal off camera matter gets out of hand... deal with it internally!

SKY - how about a new Sky one program called 6th top gear... we have a ready made team to host it

ITV - while we are waiting for SKY, bring back Spitting Image... we need a Sunday evening rant!
