So, I bought a VVT Jimny as a runaround, and stick some 235/75s on it -
And that obviously affected the gearing, just a little though, I'm surprised how well it went on the standard gearing
But, we'd discussed on here that fitting an older (pre-VVT) transfer box and diffs would get my gearing (and speedo) back to normal...
So, today I made a start...
Old (top) transfer box out, and new one (thanks again to J999PRE on here) ready to go under...
With a set of my 'ZookBOB' HD transfer box mounts attached
I felt around under the carpet for the screws holding the blanking plate in place (as the VVT transfer box was push-button)
I'd already thrown the trim in with some plating, so it came back nice and shiny!
And then cut the carpet out - good shot!
And then removed the blanking plate...
Which was lightly attached with a sticky gasket, so I pushed it up from underneath...
Sorted... Now for the box then!

Continued... (there's a limit on the number of photos per post?)
In goes the box, and the stick pokes through the previously blanked-off hole.
I then lined up the two rubber pieces below the carpet and the plated trim above, and used small screwdrivers to find the hole...
And got some slightly longer coach bolts to go through the whole sandwich...
HD mounts and bushes/bolts underneath...
I then reconnected the intermediary prop from the gearbox to the transfer box (and can confirm it fits Riccy
)
And then plugged the speedo feed cable in....
BUT... will have to come back to this lot, once I've sat down tonight and searched this fine forum for the information I need to splice all these to fool the Jimny
I haven't put the other props back yet as I still need to pull the diffs and swap them for older ones, but that's a job for another day... a good start though!

Reading this old post from Busta -
I think I 'just' need to find out which plug talks back to the ECU and lets it know the transfer box is in four wheel drive - so the one with the 'thick blue and black striped wire with red spots on it' and connect the earlier (round plug between my finger and thumb in the above photo) and later wiring together...
The other plugs will be for the actuator that selects the ratios - 2H, 4H and 4L ?
I should be able to tell by referencing the plugs back to the socket connectors on the VVT transfer box with the solenoid
I've PM'ed James J999PRE too as he seems to have historically replied to most posts on this matter

Thats good news re the intermidary prop fitting ok then. I realised the problems i had was because it was a RW box, hence a SJ casing (i think). Ive got a t-box now, just need the diffs
Have a look at the bottom of page 2 of this link. I found out how to fool the 4x4 controller into thinking all was normal. it responded and locked in the vac hubs ok in 4H and 4L.

Thanks Riccy
And thanks to James J999PRE who answered my PM with similar information...
I may have some time in the morning for a fiddle...
... and then hopefully do the diff swaps on Sunday

How did you get on with the swap? Did you try it with just the t-box first? If so i will try it with just the diffs first for comparison.
I picked up some diffs from a guy near Edinburgh who scraps loads of jimnys on sunday. Interesting and sounds like he has loads of jimnys hanging around. Just need time on the weekend to bang it all in hopefully
Keep looking at lockers. Be the ideal time to fit something
