Kinda ....asking how long is a piece of string here I know , but hey the answer is out there!
Drove my daughters Jimny today a 54 plate cabrio so G13 engine..
It starts ticks over absolutely no problems straight away even tick over , however it seems very slow on acceleration almost heavy! It speeds up getting to speed rather than SPEEDS up , if you get my drift....top speed seems to be 60 ish according to Tam ( the owner.) I wouldn't know the weather and lack of lack of Tarmac not acting like a flood plain hindered my testing of this.
The steering seems heavier than mine ....the brakes seem to work fine. Though she says it wobbles a bit braking from 50 mph.
Sounded heavy also.
Apparently the cam belt was changed recently , the airfilter is clean and is the oil filter, indicating fairly new.
My thoughts are possibly , brakes binding, fi system though not sure what, check diff oil levels just to elimate that . Could the timing be out slightly? Old air cooled motorcycles you have one tooth out and it'd run fine but lack power.
Thoughts please, before she visits her local mechanic chappie.

Yeah, I'd check for binding brakes 1st
Timing belt timing next.
Might want to check spark plug gap is correct if they have been changed.
Have a look/listen for air leaks from split vac pipes, flattened breather pipes etc.

Also while you're on with it check the tyre pressure are somewhere near 23 front and 26 rear. It can have more of an effect than you think.

Sounds gas- flow related. Sooty plugs intake side, clean plugs exhaust side.
Given that it runs clean but is sluggish it could well be the exhaust.
