Almost everyone here will insist that the Jimny is only a credible truck once it has been lifted and got.gnarly tyres and all the other bits and pieces needed to make it work. In all honesty with some skills behind the wheel and some reasonable tyres a Jimny in otherwise standard trim will achieve things that the average golf driver will be unable to comprehend. What you also need to bear in mind is that not one of these off road modified trucks will be pleasant to drive for more than about half an hour on the road even in bright sunny conditions and in anything else they are obliged by physics to be a handful at best, all of which is fine if that is what you want or more importantly if you have another car to use on a daily basis and the Jimny is a toy then yeah crack on. If however you need to use the car regularly for commuting or whatever then have some restraint and keep it fairly factory, it will have the added benefit of not costing a fortune to maintain because of breakages caused in part by the modifications themselves. By all means address the weaknesses like the cheese grade transfer box mounting bracket and the unreliability of the vacuum hubs, even consider the practicality of removing the back seats for more cargo space. Just don't fall into the trap of trying to modify it so much that it can take on a defender because it never will, not like for like. Keep your head screwed on and let your jimny impress you.

I hear you, 11/60!
I am lucky enough that the Jimny is not my daily driver (although, since I bought it, I have driven to work in it more often than my Skoda vRS!). While the boy in me wants the poster-worthy modified truck, I understand the slippery slope, and I just don't have the time for it, or even many opportunities to use the end result properly. I am staying with my mild plans. Even on my mixed road tyres, the Jimny held it's own against the modified Disco in the earlier picture in this thread. Aside from the deep mud (where the Disco got stuck anyway) it was closer between the Disco and Jimny than I expected. The Jimny just had to pick it's route more carefully. I like the more technical approach as well, of finding that route knowing the capabilities. of the vehicle.
Having said that, some additions do just look cool, even if I never actually use them (I am looking at you, snorkel
).
Jimny has impressed me already

My next project is going to be a slide on camper I think, for me and the missus to go camping/laning.
Need a trayback to measure......I know just the man!
I always tell people to do what they can afford/what their talent permits.
I'd recommend getting in a local modified Jimny and seeing how the mods feel before doing them to yours..
The snorkel makes a fantastic noise around 3500rpm!.....worth fitting one just for that

Mine is a daily driver so I kept the mods to a minimum......strangely I can drive to the lake district and not suffer any ill effects in it....Lucky I'm only a youngster in my early 50's I suppose :whistle:NickR wrote: I hear you, 11/60!

I totally agree that the Jimny is very good in standard trim. I use mine as a daily driver so have done minimal mods but
it still serves me well in competition use. considering what I am competing against it dose very well you just have to think
a bit more rather that using the point and shoot approach. Small lift and a good set of tyres is enough for most things.
Example of the other guys in the competition!
