Hi all,

Does anyone know how to get to the horn connection wires at the rear of the steering wheel. When I removed my steering shaft to fit the extended one, my son spun the wheel round and round and now the horn doesnt work :(

I have traced the fault back to the blue/red solenoid return to the horn button(s) or the horn button earth return but I'm not sure how to get at the wires at the rear of the steering wheel.

Cheers.

You are in trouble :(

There is a ribbon tape connector thingie in a cassette behind the wheel that breaks if the wheel is turned more than 2 1/2 turns either way.

The wheel has to come off for access.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Wish I had asked the question last night before I checked the horn, horn earth, connector between the solenoid and horn, the solenoid itself (to gain access to which I had to remove half the dash) and finally traced it back to the contactor coil which as you quite rightly said is behind the steering wheel and airbag assembly :( :( :(

Opened up the coil and sure enough the ribbon had snapped from one of the terminals

Yeah thats a good idea mate, think i'l pop to the local yards tomorrow. Good news is I made myself a cheap steering wheel removal tool, so should come in handy.

It isn't just children, likely I'd have spun the wheel to check the column bearings if I didn't know not to

Just in case you don't have a manual

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
