FOR SALE – a Fully-Floating Axle Kit for a Suzuki Jimny Gen-3 (1998-2018) Maybe the obvious question here is “What is a Fully-Floating Axle”? To do this you need to understand what a non-Floating Axle is first, generally known as a Semi-Floating Axle.
The “semi-floating axle system” is very common on the rear of most 4WDs. It consists of an axle shaft on each side that is splined on the inner end where it mates to the differential and has a wheel flange where the wheel studs mount at the other end. This assembly typically mates to the end of the axle housing using some type of bolted flange arrangement. The axle shaft also rides on a ball bearing out at the end of the axle housing – in the Suzuki Jimny this is a weak point, as most Green Laning and Off-Roading Jimny owners know too well and often have to replace a Rear Wheel bearing as little as once per yer or even 3 to 4 times a year depending on heavy use.
The “Full-floating axle system, is where the axle shaft only serves to transmit the rotational torque from the differential out to the wheel. It does not carry the weight of the vehicle as a semi-floater does. On a full floater, a spindle is attached to the outer end of the axle housing. The wheel hub is mounted on this spindle and rides on tapered roller bearings. It is this assembly that carries the vehicle weight. As such, a full-floating axle system is considerably stronger than an equivalently sized semi-floating system. On the semi-floating rear axle system you break or have a bearing fail, then you either have a spare shaft with you to use (on a Jimny with drum brakes this is time consuming, and not something you would like to do when out Green Laning or Off-Roading). If you do not carry spare shafts, then you will have to call for the big Yellow Taxi and get recovered to home.On the Full-floating rear axle system you break or have a bearing fail, then you can easily replace the bearing hub whilst out Green Laning or Off-Roading, perhaps in just 15mins with the right tools with you.Our Fully Floating Axle Kit uses the Suzuki Jimny Gen-3 Front Hub/Bearing. As we all know the front bearing is much larger and stronger than the slim rear half shaft bearing and therefore last considerably longer. This gives the benefits of much larger wheel bearings at the rear, increasing their service life and being easier to replace. It also standardises the bearing and bearing carrier used on all 4 wheels of the car, meaning only one spare need be carried to cover any wheel.Braking is using a Jimnybits.com disc conversion kit, which uses Renault rear callipers and Jimny front discs. This guide presumes the reader already has the Jimnybits/Renault rear disc conversion kit fitted. The adapter plates are designed specifically to work with the Renault callipers and carriers. The adapter plates are ABS compatible.

At present this will NOT fit a Gen-4 which is why it’s advertised for a Gen-3.
It will fit a Gen-4 if and when we discover the actual length of the rear shafts
I will not openly discuss prices on the Forum. Send me a Direct Message if you interested in a purchase

Roger, if you want to get both your shafts out and acurately measure them from the Diff end to the Wheel Hub end, that would be excellent - then we can get the shafts made for a Gen-4.

We have agreed to add "pricing".
£800 plus postage for The Full kit which comprises:
a Pair of Alloy Adapter Plates, with all necessary bolts and Oil Seals
a Pair of "400BHP Rated" HD Floating Axles Shafts
We can supply Allen Head Bolts for suggested Jimny Vacuum Hubs for the kit at £13
As yet, it is only for a Jimny Gen-3 to make the shafts for a Gen-4, we need a volunteer to remove the shafts to get an accurate measurement of the shafts and then our shaft supplier can make us Gen-4 Shafts too.

Hello,
We are getting asked quite often now for a Jimny Gen-4 version for our Gen-3 Rear Floating Axle (strangely mainly from "down under").
If anyne who has a Jimny Gen-4 and would consider being our Guines Pig to test things out - of course the benefit for you is that we would give you a kit (Shafts and Adapter Plate) for free as part of the development.
Firstly, we need to have the rear shafts correctly measured, then the Rear ABS and Traction Control Sensor.
1) Measure Shafts:
To measure the rear shafts we would want the dimensions from end to flange face to compare with Gen-3 parts that we have. It will need to be measured as accurately as possible and as square as possible. Also some photos of how it was measured would be handy to ensure we work the same way on either side of the planet.
2) Re the ABS sensor setup:
With the floating rear you use the front abs sensors and trigger ring as you are aware. These sensors are a basic Hall effect sensor and simply rely on a tooth passing to generate a signal, which is why they are no issue on the Gen-3. There are more teeth and bigger gaps because it’s diameter is larger. This doesn’t seem to confuse the abs controller on the gen3, though it’s untested on the Gen-4 as yet obviously. Our only concern with the Gen-4 would be how it might affect the traction control, which presumably relies on the abs sensors to know what is happening.
