im not saying theres anything worng with them, im just saying, when you do get into strife your pulling 800 odd KG off a couple of welds....

id hate to see that bar come flying off..

Yeah agreed Jimny_Aus. Nothing wrong with the welds themselves, but welds break a hell of a lot easier than bolts. My recovery points are connected to the chassis by 4 massive bolts and is rated by the manufacturer at 8000kg.

I have two of those at the front so when recovering myself, the force goes down both chassis rails and splits the load.

I don't know if I'd trust the strength of what rhys has done here. And when it comes to recovery, you really need to be able to rely that the recovery points will hold up.

copped a flogging from the lads on AZ for them.... there a work in progress......

there doesnt seem to be too many people out there with proper recovery points...

I got mine professionally fabricated and fitted. Cost me $150 but well worth it IMO

I think Rhys has done a good job!

jtayl, your recovery point bolts may be rated at 8000kg but nothing else is! They are just fixed to the bumper rather than the chassis and aren't inline horizontally with the chassis rails so it's far from the strongest setup!

Rhys has a heavy bit of box section to distribute loads along the chassis rail and extra bracing down to the cross member. If his welds are as good as they look I'm sure it will be up to the job.

Busta. Chill bro. We're not saying Rhys has done a bad job. Just pointing out that putting all your faith in welds may not be the best idea when it comes to recovery. Think of all the forces in motion. I think, visually, the welds look very well executed, but I'd be interested to see them tested in a recovery

The other issue I would be concerned with is insurance. If I need recovering, my insurance guys won't cover me unless I use rated recovery points. If I dont use a rated recovery point and it goes wrong, they won't cover me.
