Washer bottle emptying itself! was created by barryorbik
Hello all, Just registered on this site and thought the problems I had sorting out a problem on our 2002 Jinmy estate last weekend could save you some work.
This car is my wifes and last week she informed me the washer bottle kept emptying itself.

I started by checking around the bottle for signs of a leak from the seams or the pumps etc but all appeared OK, so I followed the pipes and soon found the carpets on the drivers side were wet. This is where it all starts to go horribly wrong, as I assume (and as well all know assume makes an ASS out of U and ME) the pipe to the rear screen washer is leaking, so I start the tedious task of removing driver and passenger seats and seat belt and centre console etc to get the carpet out and start the hunt for the leak. After removing the carpet to allow it to dry and drying the car floor there is no sign of a leak from the pipe, so off comes the rear door trim to reveal a bone dry interior. Eventually I notice the rear screen washer outlet is dribbling continuously after operation because the one way valve (which looks like a black in-line pipe joiner in the supply pipe within the rear door) had jammed open.

I still had no good reason for the carpet on the drivers side being wet, then find out that earlier in the week she had taken the car to a local jet wash who had thoroughly cleaned the underside of the car and sills and whilst I could find no point of ingress with our power washer I can only guess this was where the water came from.

The main moral of my story is don't assume anything it could save you loads of time

Hi and welcome....
The wet carpet could normally indicates a leakage in the heating radiator or the pipes running to it. Normally (Not Sure in the Jimny) this radiators site inside the car in the middle of the dash and when leakage occurs the carpets get wet.

Is the colling fluid level OK? If it is and hasn't been toped up the forget the radiator. ....

The carpet in my car is always wet, it's from getting in with wet feet, and all the snow.

The other "leakage" points are the buns between the engine compartment and the passenger compartment. There is one either side at the top of the wheel arches inside the engine compartment. These are used to run cables through, any water sprayed inside the engine compartment goes straight through onto the floor if these bungs are disturbed in any way.

I had this prob with my grannies polo the other month...... ripped everything out to find the leak was comming in from under the bonnet at the bulkhead..... right behind the battery compartment.
I ran a hose all over the place with everythnig removed to find it :)
I even tasted ( yes i know....minging ) the water incase it had antifreeze in it lol
