Half shaft spline counts and CV's

I understand that there are 2 different CV's for Jimny's and they differ due to spline count on the end of the shaft that goes into the CV.

What are the 2 numbers of splines?

Also, do the number of slines at the end of the front shafts that goes into the diff differ or are they all the same so that all diffs can accept all shafts?

Also, are all rear diffs and shafts the same in respect of spline counts?

Cheers

Why don't we start an information gathering exercise.

Jamie has already fallen foul of a spline problem on the transfer box to gearbox mini-prop.

If everyone taking their car apart at any time counts the splines on the part they are working on and posts this to me stating the model and year it comes from then we can create a definitive table as a reference.

OK then - I'll have a look at the front shafts I have taken out of my old original front axle but I'm not taking off the CV's as they don;t need to come off and I'm not going through that in the name of research yet!

When I next take the front apart I'll see if those front shafts go into the diff on my second hand front axle but I don;t know the year of that.

I have the rear shafts out of my spare rear axle too but don;t know the year of that - so I'm not much use yet!

Whilst stripping, cleaning and regreasing my front hubs today I looked at my two sets of front shafts and cvs.

The ones in the car now are from my second hand axle of unknown age from a convertible scrapper. The spares are my originals from my 2000 Jap built model.

The cvs look different and my original shafts have a couple of ribs inboard of the thicker part that the axle tube seal runs on whereas the others don't.

Both fit the same diff so they have the same number of splined no matter what age and therefore the same diffs, autos might differ.

I didn't take the cvs off to see if they interchanged as that's agro I didn't need. I expect they differ in some way.

I suspect the diff splines across the different models and years are all the same as ARB state that their lockers fit all ratios. They are obviously different back and front - 22 spline front and 26 rear.

Manual VVT, 2 1/2" lift, ORA castor corrected arms, 2" ORA body lift, 4:1 transfer box, Uprated front shafts & CVs ERM , ARBs back & front 3.9 diffs, 6 point cage, ORA winch bumper - Superwinch EP9, ORA rear bumper, ORA axle truses, Diff guards ERM , TBR tank guard, Snorkel, Kumho KL71.30.9.50 15

Yep I'd been thinking the same but with Kam Diffs lockers.

So it seems the only difference there is on any of the shafts is how some CV's fit some shafts and I think - but I'm not sure - that there only 2 types of CV.

Has anyone ordered the wrong one before to see how they differ?
