vacuum system was created by dc5
Basically I have had my jimny for a year and never had use of the four wheel drive system:blush:
I bought the jimny and It was a total lemon and I have had loads of work done on It over the last year but the vacuum system has never fully worked.
I now want to get It sorted and spoke to the guy who does the work on It and he said I may be as well buying a new set of vacuum pipes and fittings instead of looking for a possibe split In one of the original pipes.
He Is sure the pump works fine and I`m sure I heard one of the hubs clicking last winter when I selected 4 wheel drive:S I`m pretty sure I was getting 3 wheel drive:blink: ( is that possible)?
Can you buy the pipes as a set or can you lock the hubs permanentally so you have a constant 4x4????

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

You can lock the front hubs permanently to give a selectable 4x4.
Disconnect and block the car end of the vacuum pipes under the bonnet (so the light doesn't flash)
Take off the hub, wiggle the inside splined piece until it flys out and locks, reassemble.

I wolud lock them permanently or put manual hubs on.
I sell adaptor rings in the store store.bigjimny.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=13
that let you fit SJ manual hubs or the older permanently locked hubs from SJs
Or you can jam the hubs you have in the on position

Cheers guys.
I only use the jimny for going shooting so I`m never doing long distances In It.
I take It It`s ok to lock the hubs In the 4x4 position and will this only up the fuel consumption:unsure:
I`ve read a few threads where someone has driven on normal roads In 4 wheel drive and It was mentioned that when turning a corner the front wheels and rears turn at different speeds and this resulted In broken parts:unsure:
Sorry to sound like a tool but I don`t have a scooby doo about mechanics.
jase.

The trick is to separate in your mind the "locking" of the hubs and "Four Wheel Drive"
The locking of the hubs, locks the front wheels to the front drive shafts ONLY.
"Four Wheel Drive" transfers drive to the front driveshafts through the Transfer Box.
So with the Hubs locked to the driveshafts but with the transfer box in 2 Wheel Drive the front is still disconnected from the drive so no damage can occur.
With the Hubs locked to the driveshafts and the Transfer Box in 4 wheel drive its is all locked together with drive coming from the engine so you are in real 4WD and if you are not on a slippery surface then damage can occur.

Cheers martin,
Why does everyone not do this then as It seems a lot more reliable than the useless vacuum system:whistle:
I take It the only down side Is the fuel consumption:unsure:
