Re:Rear Wheel Bearing Query

Hi all. I had been trying to diagnose an odd rumbling from the rear of my Jimny and although I could detect no obvious movement, I know from past experience that wheel bearings can make the oddest noise. So in a I plunged. I dismantled and found what is shown in the photo. I ordered up a new one which can be seen in the other photo. Is this the correct one? There seems to be more of a race in the new one, as well as the protective bearing cage that goes up against the seal. Or is it that the one on the car was not put on properly. An        y thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

I cant really see any difference between the original and the new kit apart from the black oil splash protector? Can you be a bit more specific?

You know that the oil seal is on the retainer dont you?

Maybe that's the bit I am unsure about. The seal is the second part then which is metal and not rubber as I would suspect. Or am I missing something.

The seal is metal cased rubber. Just slide it off the retainer

So, to be clear. I prise out the old seal. Replace the splash protector, knock in the new seal. Or does this go on to the shaft first? Drift the bearing and retainer onto the shaft if not already done and then insert the whole lot carefully?

  I have had a better look at what is left in the axle. I can see the splash protector and I assume what left of the out metal housing of the seal. Would you concur? If so as i said above would be a plan?
