Fitted the Kit to my brothers car, issues with rusted brake unions and bits and bobs, bit of binding now, but working on that!
Question is, hand brake not quite as good as drums, does it need to bed in a bit?
had the issue too, that the hand brake cable did not go far enough into the barrel, to the caliper, so we just undo the brackets on the chassis to the cable

Why would you need disc brakes on the rear of a Jimny?

I had no problems with fitting mine
My hand brake works on one click
Why wouldn't you want rear discs
You can change pads in minutes
You can change half shaft oil seal and have it back together in half hour
Also if your bearing fails your wheel wont slide out pulling the shaft out with it

Better hand brake, but makes servicing the bearings much easier, no more bleeding, and no more shoe springs to put back on , don't have to worry about water and mud filling up the drums
Every time the axle bearing goes , the axle oil takes out the brake shoes , and the whole process to repair is a total pain, also the shoes are handed , so if you going thru left bearings more, you keep having to buy a pair of shoes to use one, I have 2 right sides sets if you want lol

Biggest benefit I believe is their ability to start working again if you submerged in water during an enthusiastic off road session. They are also a pain to strip and clean if said water is also full of mud, it stays inside turning to grinding paste it you do nothing.
This is my experience on my drum only series Land Rover. That said if you keep them above the water they are very effective and not sure you can claim a disk is a better handbrake. This is based on my VW (disk handbrake) which would move overnight if parked on a hill.
As to the handbrake on the Jimny conversation specifically, I would at best have expected it to be as good as the original shoe system. It should hold the vehicle on a steep incline, if it can't then something is possibly wrong.
