OK so it did grow there. If you have a dremmel tool or proper die grinder then you could very carefully manipulate the hole in the bracket to allow the thread to clear. The thread is acting in tension clamping against the flat of the bracket rather than having a shank and acting as a dowel on the hole in the bracket so from an engineering point of view the hole could just as easily be a slot so long as it retains the same locating feature relative to the axle. In other words if you extend the hole forward slightly away from the axle and keep the edge of the hole near the axle untouched you will be able to get the link out and still put it back in the same place.

I was going to say similar, but a bit more hill-billy... drill sideways into the existing hole at an angle so the thread will go through (having cut the old one off)

I was quite reluctant to cut anything but eventually the inevitable has happened and I made a cut! Altough I shortened the bolt part I was able to salvage the droplink! Before anyone warns me ... Yes, I know...I will need to repeat this process next time, but at least I saved some money this time!

Ok, so it was not done during accindent repair. :ohmy: But then how on Earth was this droplink squeezed through the hole??? :blink: Unless you are the one, who repaired or owned my car in the past?!? :woohoo: :laugh: :laugh:
