Battery terminals was created by wejxf03
Apologies if this seems a silly question but am new to Jimny ownership (2001 Jimny auto).
I cannot seem to tighten my battery terminals up enough to make a good reliable connection.
The terminal have sleeves (adapters?) round them.
When I measure the terminals without the adapters they seem to be 10mm -ve and 12mm positive.
Do I buy new sleeves/adapters or change the terminals?
Thanks in advance
John

On our old 2004 Jimny I made a couple of shims out of some copper pipe cut to a suitable length and then split to allow movement. Worked flawless.

Thanks for reply Lambert.
Think I will go for belt n braces and change both the adapters and terminal clamps.
They both look past their best!
Incidentally if I find that the battery has had it I presume I can find a new battery the same size and terminal layout and do away with the adapters?

To be honest and because I'm cheap, I'd just use some degreaser and some sand paper to tidy up those connections. Fit a larger shim like Lambert suggested.

As above just touch the terminals with a wire brush and add a couple of shims. Save the money for something that needs it.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

The Japanese built Jimnys should have the small JIS terminals, rather than the larger SAE sizes. The adaptor is supposed to convert from the small to the large to fit a JIS battery to a SAE car.
Either you have the "wrong" battery- is your Jimny a soft-top? or the "wrong" terminals.
However, as Lambert says, just add a strip of copper between the terminal and the adaptor.
