A very interesting device....much maligned and works a treat.facade wrote: The fan roars, more so when the engine is cold (all viscous fans do, I never figured that out, you'd expect it not to drive when it is cold, maybe the fluid takes a while to get the right idea?)

Not sure what you mean....an intercooler cools the air before it gets compressed again by another compressor.....turbo feeding a bigger turbo etc....an aftercooler is on an engine equipped with a single turbo or supercharger....."compressor" in it's exemplar definition.......inanimate objects are usually quiet until acted on by outside forces.....rocks and branches lol.....then they hiss and have fits.barnsley john wrote: am I getting mistaken then from a intercooler not supercharger

Ah, most likely the fluid was all in the outside part as the engine would have been hot when it was put away, so it takes a while to pump it all back to the reservoir, I was right, it takes a while for it to get the idea

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there
