Hi,

I've just bought a 2003 Suzuki Jimny. It's been driving fine for the past few days and we were getting on so well...

I drove it home this morning and parked up, all fine. Got into drive it this afternoon, put the key in the ignition and tried to start the car - all the dashboard lights came on as usual, but it would not start at all. Absolutely no noise from anything mechanical - total silence. No obvious error lights on the dash.

Could this be the immobiliser? The car came with two keys - an official suzuki key, and a shop-cut copy. I was using the copy to start the car (though now neither key words). When I switch the car's power on, the immobiliser light comes on and stays on but I think is is normal until the car is started?

I have charged the battery up for good measure - it was a little on the low side voltage wise, but nothing major.

Or it's been suggested to me it could be the starter motor, and I should get underneath, find it, and give it a whack with a hammer.

Any advice gratefully received! (Or I could just whack myself with a hammer - kinda feel like it tbh...)

Thanks

Will be interested to hear what you find jwb- you're obviously more technically capable than I am!

Can you check the battery voltage?

If the battery seems fine, yes, whack the starter as the Solenoid might be stuck. It usually clicks though. So I think that the battery has expired but you need to check it first.

I'll second whacking the starter motor with a hammer - if youhave one of those lead-shot filled hammers - even better.
Got my friends Austin Seven started the other day doing exactly this. Dismantled the starter and oiled the bendix later - never sticks now
