Auto transmission assistance needed was created by jwb
Jimny 2000 M13A Auto 250k km
Daughter's car and was driving and suddenly had severe jolting in drive train making the car undrivable.
I've got to look at it.
When started we heard a much louder than normal running sound - not engine.
Drove off and transmission seemed to slip excessively then had the violent jolting, likely at gear change.
Car drives ok in Low or Second and reverse but slipping on acceleration. Couldn't get the jolting to happen again but didn't go too far.
When idling in neutral there's a steady ticking coming from one of the ECU's under the glovebox.
History - had the car for 18months, had some rough gear changes in the past so regularly change ATF with good quality semi-synthetic which smoothed the changes. Drained fluid was cloudy.
Are these units serviceable.
Any advice appreciated including more things to check.

I don't think you have more things to check. Unfortunately, the auto transmission in the Jimny is one of the weak points in the drive train. I'm not bashing the autos as mine is an auto.
I don't believe genuine Suzuki rebuild kits are available. You can order separate parts from Suzuki (or Martin on this site) but that would be fairly expensive. Ebay has kits from China. You would need to do a search there for a kit for a TW-40E transmission. Can't say what the quality is like.
Another option you may want to pursue is a secondhand unit. If you are in the UK, I'm not sure how much they cost there. They are fairly reasonable here.
Hope that helps at least a little. Perhaps some of the others on the forum can add some more (better) information.

Thanks for your advice. I had feared as much.
Looking for rebuild kits I came across this at Cobra Transmissions.
Jimny .7/1.3L 4 RWD/AWD 2000-2004 A174
Jimny .7/1.3L 4 RWD/AWD 2004-2011 TW-40E
Ours is a 2000 M13A so A174 type is recommended not TW-40E.
Do you concur?

Yes. Sorry. For the earlier models (actually I think 1998 to 2004) the kit for the A174 is what you would need.
I much prefer the autos and hope the fix gets your daughter back on the road.

Will a transmission from a VVT engine Jimny fit our M13A?

You were correct on the transmission for the 2000 year model but isn't the engine a G13?
Edit: Actually 2000 I think is when they introduced the M13 into the Jimny. Unless someone on the forum knows the answer, let me do some research. Aside from the physical interface, you may have some controller issues as well.
