Hello all,

I am going to be fitting 31 10.50 15 tyres to my Jimny and I have various questions in regards to what wheels I should buy with them.

1) I know I need 15" wheels but what width should these be?
2) What offset should I go for if at all? (confused about what is best here)
3) If I have no offset I guess I will need spacers? are these a good idea on off road vehicles?
4) Anyone bought from 4x4 Tyres.co.uk are they any good? - wheels on there look pretty good..

My current setup (see picture below) is wide flared arches, 215/75/15 tyres and wheels spacers. I am not sure if the wheels have offset. These wheels & tyres I will be selling.

Sorry for all the questions. Thank you for your help!
Redmond

Hi Redmond,

some answers for you:
1) 15x8 would be ok, 15x10 ideally but will be a hard size to find i would think and may cause further rubbing issues.
2) dont get an offset wheel. try without the spacers as well. if you have spacers its likley to catch on the front body mounts (under the headights) under heavy cornering. This might be worked around with extended bump stops.
3) I have spacers with my 235 tyres and have no problems apart from catching, however they have made the front wheel bearings wear out after less than 2 years/8000 miles (due to putting increased strain on them).
4) 4x4 tyres are where i got mine from. arrived a few days later than they said, were fitted the other way around to as asked for (white lettering on outside, i wanted black side out), and were balanced on the centre hole rather than the studs as asked. Basically they didnt listen, but they were good on price and the wheels themselves are great.

The question you didnt ask is about gearing, so i presume you have something sorted out already for that? 31" tyres on standard gearing will be a challenge for the poor little jimny!

Riccy.

10.50 is very wide. Unless you need flotation for treading lightly on very soft ground, narrower tyres are definitely better suited to the Jimny. Remember that by increasing the circumference you are also increasing the length of the contact patch, so width becomes less important. Narrow tyres like 7.50s work a lot better in mud and you will still have plenty of flotation for soft surfaces. They also sap less power and are lighter, so the ride will be better. And they will fit in your arches better and rub less. I'd go for either a 750 r16 or 235/85 r16 on a 6 inch rim. Both are 31 inches tall, so you get tons of clearance under the diffs.
