Another vote for the exedy clutch. Mine held up to 235/75 tyres with stock gearing.
No idea about the Safari version, it sounds good with increased clamping force and improved construction. Cost wise it's about halfway between a paddle clutch and the standard exedy model.
Your call on that one really.

I have a very heavy duty organic clutch to go in the 1.6 turbo when it gets put together....I got it as a replacement for the ceramic paddle clutch the turbo ate in 3 weeks....very poor tribology on the cover as it never marked the flywheel and ate 6mm from the cover......I got worried when I used the word tribology and the clutch specialist just stared at me.
Strangely the clutch currently in my car is the one I removed as it was slipping under boost.....I removed .5mm from the mating face of the cover and it never slipped again.

Keith, what does "...marked the flywheel..." mean in this?
That's quite a bit anyway, especially 6 mm.
New word for me to, but aint a clutch specialist... yet. : )
I'm actually thinking about ordering the Excedy Safari Tuff clutch today, it is probably still in stock in the BJ shop as I was told it was yesterday, got a quick answer from Martin about that.
I'll also add this question which is in another thread here, to see if I can get any recommendations when it comes to this:
"Is it recommended to replace the clutch cable to while at it?
Clutch pedal has felt a bit heavy and the pedal has also had a very short distance of slip to bite, but it might just be because of how it's contructed and/or the wear of the clutch."
This time a workshop will be doing this replacement, would like to do it but at the moment I just want to get it rolling without this unwanted slip.
Need the car to because now I have strained my other ancle to and also some parts at the bridge and under the forefoot is dammaged.
Soon off to rehabilitating training, getting those feet working as I want them to again. : )

Tribology basically means materials properties when rubbed together.....I kind of expected a manufacturer of clutches to know about such things.
The ceramic paddle removed 6mm of material from the cover and made no marks on the flywheel at all....not even polished it.
Get the Exedy it'll be fine.
I've changed my clutch cable twice......fine mud seems to ruin them......no amount of cleaning oiling etc helps
they are too expensive to keep buying so I'm going hydraulic.
The boys at work run a £6000 ap racing clutch on the race car......makes my playing seem like value for money Ollie!

Was going to change a headgasket and have a head ported once but ...
The only clutch I ever bought was a ~£1300 one from Spec and I have not yet put that engine back in the car after a complete overhaul, with a set of cheramic coated JE pistons(one type of coat for the top and one for the sides), Dbilas cam+harder springs, some raceware headbolts, layered metal headgasket and ported intakes in the head which also was planed and cc volume balanced. Raised the compression a bit to for those lower revs. Oh, and the intake was matched with the head to and had a what they called a bafflekit installed in the oil sump.
That included a metal ring welded on the oil pickup and also a wall with a one way hinged door to get right amouth of oil when cornering booth ways.
New bores, valve seats done, parts weighted, balanced separate and together, so it should be able to safely rev 7000 instead of 6000 max.
The 944 Turbo should probably have the S2 gearbox instead, don't think I will have much use of a 300 km/h topspeed and the 944 S2 has a different gear ratio in 5th. :silly:
Did this together with friends and there was some companies involved in machining and balancing to.
Some day ... :

Will do that with some help later, now I need to get going with "St Jimny" and who knows what this will lead to. : D
I'll order a new cable to, probably worth to do. Thanks
