Thank you. I will let you know soon. I've got an engineer on the case at the moment.

As I said earlier I would take that chaps offer of the head not forgetting to take into account either way you will need a head gasket kit and new bolts.

The electrodes need to be fished out or they will get munched in the valves and ruin them.
Given the head fault and the missing electrodes in the head a second hand head seems to be the way to go.

Just thought I would report back after a stressful couple of weeks. I am happy to report that the Jimny is back on the road at minimal cost! Fingers crossed!
The thread has been helicoiled by an engineer friend and didn't need drilling out. Brand new (expensive!) longlife NGK spark plugs now in there (which already seem better than the Bosch ones they replaced!). They won't need changing for some years! Replaced the coil pack with a Lucas one from the local Motor Factors for £35, a fraction of the Suzuki price of £177!!
We managed to fish the bits out, (including the tang off the helicoil that fell in too during the process! Grrr!) This was done using both a small telescopic magnet and a small tube with grease on the end so the bits would stick to the end. Also started the engine first time with no spark plug in case we had missed anything (path of least resistance and all that!)
Everything seems to be running sweet and it sounds quieter than it did before it went fut! Think that might be the better (correct!) spark plugs!
Thanks for the offer of the head.....I was very close to taking you up on the offer...but hopefully (fingers, toes etc crossed!) we won't need it!

Well done. ai bet it was clenched bum during the process especially when the tang went in the pot! Still all sorted then . Who were the motor factors then and do they do postal orders? At that price it would be good to know

Oh yes, definitely squeeky bum time, more than once I can tell you! The Motor Factors are based in South Wales and are called Fast Parts. They have a couple of stores and are always really helpful. Not sure of postal orders sorry but here's their website, all be it pretty basic.
