My winch plans – a little help please

Oooh, batteries I meant to mention...

I've been offroading / greenlaning for 25 years, and have always relied on just the vehicles battery, and never really suffered... the only problem being if you completely deplete the charge in the one battery and then can't restart the vehicle, but that's going to be very rare...

The Jimny is supposed to be influenced by all my experiences over the years, and as I had a proper winch battery sitting around from yet another failed project I fitted it into the Jimny's bonnet -

On a JimnyBits tray with a dual charge T-Max system, again from JimnyBits...

All the electrics -

Are located on a bridge across the engine bay with isolator switches for both winches, and a manual switch to link the batteries with proper fat wire if needed, i.e. if the winch battery is depleted and I still need more power... The front winch wander lead plugs in there too...

So, no, you'll be fine with just one decent battery... ;)

He shouldn't go with a Goodwinch just because I say so :) . But because it's very much used in winch challenges. Both here in Denmark but also in the UK. It's often used as a centre or rear winch, and of course as a front winch.

TomDK wrote: So my best advise. Get a Goodwinch TDS 9.5 with a steel rope. Learn to use it, and then when you have the money, spend it on a good quality synthetic rope. Even with steel rope, a TDS winch is a far far better deal than any Warrior winch with Synthetic rope.

Thanks Tom, that's not a bad shout - appreciate your thoughts!

S200KYS wrote: The T-Max winch is really good, I got some proper Dyneema rope for it and it's never really let me down that one, it's been through many a deep ford and continues to work fine..

..The Warrior, hmmm, it's alright...

..Hope all that helps anyways...

Dave

Thanks Dave, it helps a lot, appreciate you taking the time to post all that for me. I'm learning a lot from your build thread too.. on page 41 at the moment

Good to hear a cheer for the t-max too. If I went for that I would have enough change for that lockright I also want! or be patient and get the goodwinch, hmmm. Will take some measurements and sleep on it me thinks!

Cheers lads

Unless you are doing some serious stuff offroad I don't think you will need a locker. :)

Ahh, I was just going to post that if you had a rear Lockright you probably wouldn't need to use the winch as much...

It's not often we use our winches when we're greenlaning for that reason...
