The belts on it are new, probably less than 5 miles use so hopefully ok, I might put a new aux belt tensioner on it at the same time though

Back to this, tried to cheat it for a bit by just cracking the tension up on the altonator, worked for a few weeks but it's ripped the belt again, going to drop radiator, swap out crankshaft pulley, clean up all pulleys really good and put on new belts, and then pray

Right, did as above and swapped old pulley out, im going to briefly explain how we did this as the crankshaft bolt was very tight, we wedged a thick screwdriver though one of the pulley holes and against the bottom of the engine, then used a breaker bar with a 2ft extension on and pulled it the regular "Leftie loosey" (counter clockwise) and after snapping one breaker bar we did it.
The old pulley then just slid off, the outer metal is connected to the inner with a small rubber Cush and this appeard to have become disjointed at one side and you could push the inner section away from the outer by a good amount.
Everything back in place now and started her up, put as much load onto the altonator as I dared (high beams, radio, heater ect) and I couldn't fault it, not one squeek
If you don't hear from me again this was what has cracked it! And Thankyou for the advice

One of the members did post a thread on how to make a tool that mounts on the pulley with two bolts and locks the pulley. I got my bolt free with a impact wrench but I still made a copy of his and it works. The ALTERNATOR on the M13 is prone to this problem and overtightening the belts does no good but actually causes more damage. The pulleys are not cheap but keep buying belts with the possibility of a severe overheat plus breakdown is not an option in my book.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

It was me.

I had a lovely time undoing the bolt, which had welded itself to the pulley with rust, on the page before I showed how I undid it with my fingers, after cutting away the flange on the bolt
