Transfer Case Temp was created by zukebob
I'm curious to see if anyone knows the normal operating temperature of the transfer case gear oil. The FSM lists the normal operating temp of the auto transmission ATF as 70 - 80C but, after searching, I can't find anything on the transfer case.
Thanks

I don't think you'll find this - do you have a problem?

Thanks Kirkynut. I don't think the info is available either. Typically the transfer case temp is close to the transmission temp. For my auto transmission that is about 70 - 80 C for normal operating temperatures. I was hoping that I could get some data that indicated the Jimny transfer would be a reasonable bit below that.
I'm not having any troubles with my transfer case but, after adding breathers to my differentials, I was interested in adding them to the transmission and transfer as well. I noted in the instructions for Martin's kit that there have been problems reported in hotter climates. The Philippines probably qualifies for that. Looking at good quality push-to-connect fittings, I found most to be capable of 80 C max operating temperatures......hence the problem.
I have found some high temp fittings (120 C and 200 C max) but neither come in a thread size matching what Martin uses. They jump from M5 to G1/8 or R1/8. As no adapters exist going from the M7 that Martin has found to fit to either G1/8 or R1/8, I guess it may be custom adapter time.
Thanks

Although I had the reports I find it hard to believe that the transfer box exceeds 80 degrees. I think the source of heat is the exhaust and catalytic converter in reality and I suspect that something was going on unrelated to the transfer case.
It would be good if someone could point one of those laser thermometers at a t-case that had been on both a sustained speed run and an off-roading session

At least Suzuki transfer boxes are divorced with the mini prop joining them. They therefore don't get heat sink from the gearbox and thus engine!
