just wondering how thick the metal is in the boot noticed a few patches of rust and a small hole near the rear seatbelt point is, im thinking about cutting the whole boot out and replacing it, rather than patching it all

I've just been outside to my car and measured the thickness of the metal bracket that holds the jack in place and seems to be 1.5 or 1.6mm thick. I did try and measure the thickness near the rust hole near the seat belt but the metal is all bubbled and flaked so I can't really get a accurate measurement. so probably gonna go with 1.6 as the thickness of the metal, I'm gonna replace the metal with 2mm thick mild steel was thinking about replacing it with 3mm thick but seems to be to heavy duty and too costly. I found a website that delivers metal to your door 1000x1000 2mm thick mild steel cost £35.88 may have another look see if I can find any cheaper. I'm gonna give the sheet a 2 coats of red oxide, 2 coats of hammerite and then waxoyl the underneath once it's been welded in. Probably be next month when I begin to start the job due to having no money, also going to try and refit the rear seats

You know you can buy a complete boot floor to weld in? A flat sheet will never be as tough as a pressed panel. www.jimnybits.co.uk/shop/jimny/service-i...panel/prod_1445.html

And if you do still want to make it from sheet metal, find a local fabricator/engineer/welder and ask if they will cut you a bit. It'll be much cheaper than ordering online.
