Hi guys, I've finally been ale to sign up to the forum! I've been trawling through posts in order to get more info on a problem I have with my 2009 Jimny which I recently bought.

There is an obvious leak underneath from where the first propshaft enters the gearbox. I am familiar with the recall and have heard that people have had either the rear seal and/or propshaft replaced to cure the problem. Suzuki replaced the rear gearbox seal last week for me but I'm still getting that familiar smell of oil being burnt on the exhaust and there is still a leak/weap.

I also get a vibration/reverberation at low rpm and a slight clunk from the clutch as power is taken up (Clutch recently replaced). All of this points towards a failing propshaft no..? Before I spend silly money, is it worth obtaining a used propshaft from somewhere like eBay and fitting it? I would appreciate any advice. I am located in Swansea normally but am currently in Taunton with family.

2009 Jimny with 116k

Thanks

Welcome, member J999pre has plenty of spare parts, I got a prop off him to replace my leaky one too. I haven't got round to fitting it yet as the leak doesn't use that much oil. But it's worth getting it done. Jim

Try pulling the prop shaft and check the coupling that slides into the box for wear witness marks and if you can micrometer along its length to see if there is a ridge or any ovality on/of the shaft.

If it's the faulty prop problem it's the seal inside the spider but they usually show up at a much lower mileage??

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm convinced the prop is the culprit.

Just reread your first post.
I had my seal/prop replaced and there was still a burning smell.
Turned out it was either the gearbox was overfilled or it took a while for some of the spilt oil to completely clear.
It's the prop spinning and throwing the oil around and over the exhaust pipe..
All you can do is clean as much off as you can and check after a week or so if you use the car regularly.
Obviously check for more signs of leakage as well as gearbox level.
It also throws it over the underside of the car so if you can at least clean that off it's a good indicator that the prop is the problem if it re occurs.
You could try the araldite fix in the link??
