Rather than a K&N, get a snorkel, the placebo effect is much better, sounds great sucking in air at around 4k revs - although mpg defo goes down getting it to roar :) - cherry bomb back box helps the placebo effect too.

Are you talking about a k&n cone filter bolted on instead of the air box, or, a panel one in the air box?

My problem with using k&n cones is that the filter usually sits in the engine bay, sucking hot air from behind the rad and from around the engine, rather than sucking nice fresh air in from the wheel arch.

I put a K&N panel filter in mine at the start of the month, no noticeable difference in noise and I'll find out next fill up if the fuel economy is any better.

ive ran them on two previous cars. A 2ltr red top cavalier and a 3ltr Porsche 944. Neither had any issues, and I owned the cavalier for 5 years with that engine in it (it originally only had a 1.6 in it) and the porker for 8. :)
