Won't Rev Over 2500rpm In 5th was created by Olucas91
This weekend my Jimny has developed a loss in power. It now sounds like its struggling to accelerate and when I get into 4th and 5th it won't rev over 2500rpm and do more than 40mph. There is also a strange noise that sometimes appears, it sounds like a jingle when you rattle a set of keys. The engine is a G16. It seemed to have happened after Id been up and steep hill in the peaks, think it was about 16% gradient and could barley get up it in 2nd. Any ideas? Thanks Ollie

Blocked cat? The jingling noises being the insides that have fallen apart and caused the blockage?

I Did think that. What's the best way to check? The jingling to me sounded like gears but never experienced a blocked cat.

Rev car up in neutral to establish if it still revs up. If it doesn't, disconnect exhaust at manifold and see if you get your revs back. If you do, then there is a blockage in exhaust system, if you don't get the revs back, then at least you have eliminated that cause

Exhaust seems to be the problem, undone the exhaust at manifold a little bit and now running fine. You can hear it hissing through the gap I made. Any ideas of a good place to get a new cat or full exhaust? Must be the original so has lasted 15 years.

The original Jimny cat is 400 cells per square inch 400cpsi. If you are going to replace it, might I suggest that you get a 100cpsi cat as this will make the system more free-flowing, may improve performance slightly but will mostly give the system a nice note
It's what I did when I changed my system over to 2" exhaust and I've been very happy with it.
In Oz, any muffler shop will make up a 2" system on the spot for you, 100Cpsi cats can generally be sourced from FeeBay quite cheaply. Not sure where you cooler clime peoples would have to go.
