If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

If it is play in the axle mountings/trailing arms, then with the handbrake locked on, you should be able to make it clonk by pushing & pulling the car backwards & forwards with a bit of enthusiasm
You did check that the transfer box mounts havent sheared? If it was the transfer box moving though, likely you'd see the transfer lever move as it clonks.

Transfer box mounts are good, just waiting for the rain to stop and I'm off to have another look.
Taking my little helper with me for added "push/pull"
Thanks, facade

Mine was hard to get it to make the clonk by pushing and pulling on the cage as a handle this time, so it's not a fool proof way of checking but I have made it clonk like that when previously experiencing the same. It depends on how loose it is I suppose. My holes are not elongated but they would be if left clonking for long!

Well, Ellie and I had a tin of spinach each for lunch, applied a few tattoos, flexed some muscles and sure enough there it was...clonk
Gary the funkyjimny is sending me a pair of arms, and I already have a full set of bushes, so...put the two together...sorted, with luck and a fair wind!!
Will post the results when finished. Thanks again to all contributors ....
