Get a code reader plugged in, it will be something minor. You can buy a decent one from Machine Mart for the same as a garage charges for 'diagnostics'.
Rhinoman is spot on. You shouldn't be surprised that a 14 year old car has a minor fault! Milage is irrelevant. And ECU failure would mean it wouldn't run at all.

I'm pretty sure it would be the lambda sensor, I had to replace the one on my Jimny when the engine check light was on PLUS 2 sensors on previous Honda's we have owned when the check light illuminated.
On a foot note I think the MPG was better on the Jimny when the check light was on than after having the lambda sensor replaced.
