Check engine light problems at low mileage was created by Lazia23
Going down the road this afternoon the check engine light has come on. all sounds good except that when i come off the throttle the revs falter at 1100 rpm ever so slightly before returning to idle.
Its not audible when driving but clear enough when running the engine still. a few pops from the exhaust as well.
only done 44,000 miles as well so that isn't right.
any ideas?

It is 14 years old. You should pull the fault codes to see where the issue lies.

Got the Engine light on on mine at 10yrs old and 17,000 miles ,age and mileage is irrelevant .Similar symptoms as you described, read code that pointed to throttle body, cleaned inside and all good.
The Eml can come on anytime

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

There's a code for "ECU failed"?
What is the actual code number displayed?
I would have thought that if the ECU had failed the engine wouldn't run, and it wouldn't be possible to communicate with it.
EDIT: Was it "communication failed"?

well according to the link posted on the forum a few years ago if you jump the pins and the engine warning lights stay constant then it means ECU failure. i don't have a code reader so i can't be sure for certain
