Why keep away from Ethanol blends mate? I've only every used E10 (10% alcohol, 95 RON) in my Jimny, from brand new 15 years ago and she has done 417,000 k's so far, still going strong.

We are already subjected to upto 5% ethanol in the UK, and are likely to end up with 10% in the future.

Apart from it is corrosive, hygroscopic & tends to separate from the fuel in storage, I don't trust anything these "environmentalists" say is A Good Thing ;)

(Try getting paint that sticks to aluminium, we can't even buy creosote any more, people put emulsion on their sheds and it washes off in the rain  )

Hmmm, well, we have up to 85% Ethanol in Oz and I've never heard of any probs with alcohol fuel. It is cleaner, cheaper and maybe it has just got bad press over in the UK. It certainly doesn't corrode anything and as for hygrosopic, that is true but not a problem. Just ask anybody who has every bought petrol contaminated with water. The solution to that problem is to wack some metho (about 500ml/tank)into the petrol and the good old hygroscopic that you complain of causes the water to be bound to the meth (alcohol) and thus to be blended in with the petrol and be consumed, fixing the problem. Basicaly, having alcohol in the petrol makes it self-healing against water.
