Hello, please excuse my ignorance as I come from Vitara-land and am relatively new to Jimnys...

Can someone please enlighten me on what is the correct propshaft needed for the rear when running a rocklobster conversion?

Before someone shouts, I have used the search function and read Martin's guide -

www.bigjimny.com/index.php/forum?view=to...id=7&id=57462#143120

Rockwatt wrote: SJ413/samurai front prop to replace the rear on your Jimny and the short intermediate prop from the same. Not 410/Santana as there 15mm to long and different spline for the inter prop

And :

www.bigjimny.com/images/documents/transferboxmounts.pdf

But when I recently bought a couple of bundles of propshafts off eBay none of them fitted?

Those that were the right length had the wrong size, i.e. 8mm, holes at the wrong (smaller) PCD, and those that had the right, 10mm holes, at the right PCD were too long...

So what propshaft should I be aiming to get which is a bolt-on solution???

My rocklobster box has 8mm holes in the output flange, and the Jimny diff flange has 10mm holes.

Having had a UJ go in the rear prop that's been on it since building it, I've tried to replace it with the top two props in this photo -

But they, despite being advertised as being Samurai Props have 8mm bolt holes at the narrower PCD at the end? (Have I bought the wrong props then?)

So I've been round to my local friendly garage this morning to ask them to change the UJ in the end of the prop that was fitted to my Jimny, and to swap the end of one of the front "Samurai" Props for one of the others so that it has 10mm holes at the right PCD, so that I then have two good props, one to go on the Jimny and a spare to sit in the garage/in the back of the Jimny... (I've also recently sourced a spare front Jimny prop off Rockwatt, thanks mate!).

So / But... where am I going wrong in sourcing a suitable propshaft for the rear of my Jimny with a rocklobster transfer box fitted, and to marry up correctly with the standard Jimny diff flange?

Cheers, Dave B)

And looking at Sush's advert here in the for sale section -

That SJ front prop appears to be 8mm bolts too?... :(

So what marrys up to the diff flange correctly?

You are not really going wrong, the problem is that there are variations over the years in SJ props. They varied the flange size (and bolt sizes/positions) so there is no single "standard" SJ prop. Equally the SJ transfer box flange also changed in line with the various prop changes. Therefore you have to match the Transfer Flange, the prop flanges and the diff flange. Basically the Jimny is the same as the very last SJs so a very late SJ prop will fit to the Jimny diff. The usual trick is to re-drill the flanges or swap the ends over when changing UJs.

So there's me thinking I've done the wrong thing, when in essence I've done the right thing?

Buy a bunch of props and then change the ends round until they suit? LOL

I was in a rush to get it all done for 'laning on Sunday, but I'll have a go and changing the next few ends and replacing the UJs...

Thanks Martin ;)

Hi,

I am from Samurai Land.

There are two types of SJ/Samurai: Spanish and Japanese.
Japanese is the genuine one, and the Spanish is an unfinished clone. And are many differences.

Regarding propeller shafts.

There are many types of flanges, with different hole spacing.
-SJ410 v1 Spanish and Japanese, with M8 bolts
-SJ410 v2 Spanish and Japanese, with M8 bolts
-Sj413 Spanish and Japanese with M8 bolts
-Samurai Spanish with M8 bolts
-Samurai Japanese with M10 bolts

There are 3 lengths of shafts:
-Sj410
-SJ413 and Samurai
-SJ80

There are three types of UJ:
27200-73010 = 25mm diameter for SJ410 v1
27200-83810 = 23,8mm diameter for Spanish SJ/Samurai
27200-73813 = 25mm diameter for Japanese SJ/Samurai

The Jimny flanges are the same as Samurai Japanese, 60mm hole spacing, 27mm flange nut and M10 bolts.

For rocklobster you need a front propeller shaft from a Japanese Samurai, not SJ410/SJ413.
Or to replace the 3rd Jimny flange with a Samurai one.

As the Jimny and the Samurai propeller splines are the same, you can combine them.

As english is not my native language i hope you understand.
Please be free to ask anything about Sam, i am the guy behind samurai4x4.ro.
