Travelled down to Peterborough last week from Scotland for a Jimny, drove to Birmingham and all was well! Stayed in Birmingham for afew days, used the it for shopping ect but the fan belt started making a noise. Headed back home to Scotland yesterday about 350 miles and it was going great! Sat at 60-70mph on the motorway. Couple of miles from home heard a noise and battery light came on,i continued until i reached home by that time temp was well in the red, up on inspection the belt that goes round alternator etc had snapped. Going to attempt to replace the belt today which looks like it's going to be a drama from what i have read about it, due to belt tensioners seizing and lack of access!

Twin Cam or single cam? From memory single is easy and on the twin cam I've not heard of the tensioner seizing but it is tight getting the new belts on because the belts are only just long enough to get over the lip of the pullies.
I have found getting the belt on as far as possible, then blipping the starter very briefly turns the engine over enough for the belt to find its way on. Then lever the tensioner to the required tightness of the belt and nip up the tensioner bolt.

It's a Twin Cam, do i need to remove the radiator first? Just had a look and there's not much space! It's my first Jimny so never worked on one before!

No need to remove the radiator. You can gain a little room by removing the bolts in the top of the rad and tilting it forwards but it's not necessary. It's tight but no worse than many, many FWD cars. Just mind your knuckles!
