Wheel bearing was created by Jimnyjack1993
Hello all, i have fitted a new front wheel bearing today and just wondering if I should leave a tiny bit of play when I put it back together as i have told to do by a friend, is this right?
Thanks jack

No is the simple answer.

Its a roller bearing with no adjustment, it should be done up to the recommended torque 220Nm whilst rotating the wheel.

Your friend is referring to taper rollers, as fitted to Proper Cars from The Olden Days B)

These you did up until there was just a trace of play (actually, you were supposed to measure the endfloat with a dial gauge).

The front bearing on a Jimny is a one piece cassette type, with the centre race split in the middle. When you do the nut up tight, the split closes and correctly preloads the bearing.

Some eBay sellers sell a pair of taper roller bearings for the Jimny, these are wrong, and won't fit properly.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
