The Mystery of the Horn that doesn't hoot.

The Mystery of the Horn that doesn't hoot. was created by Casey
Having had a near collision with someone pulling in front of me at a mini roundabout last Thursday, my attempts to vent my anger by peeping repeatedly on the weak Jimny sounder that passes for a horn met with silence.
While the perpetrator left the scene blissfully unaware of the purple faced expletive hurling motorist he'd offended, I was left wondering why my aggressive finger prodding had generated less sound than a child's tricycle bell.
I suspected some problem with a fuse and put it off until the next day.
Well I set off for town this morning only to find the indicators were no longer working. I went back home and having looked at the fuse cover couldn't find one that said indicators, but did find the one that said horn had blown.
Now here's the weird bit. Replacing the fuse has cured the indicator bit, but the horn still doesn't work.
Can anyone tell me, do I need a new horn or have I missed something else that could be causing the problem.

It sounds like the horn - which is poxy to begin with - has seen better days. They sort of squeak when they are done for.
I suggest you fit a better horn. I ran the wiring to the new horn's relay from the existing connectors that plug into the horn(had to split the connector though). Then I junked the old horn.
You can see mine tucked in the right hand corner by the bonnet hinge in this pic.

Might have to get a cheap replacement to start with and see if that's the problem, before spending a few bob on something with a few more db.
Where abouts is the relay? Is there any chance that whatever caused the fuse to blow might have taken out the relay too?

I'd say the horn has gone wonky and the fuse blew as a result.
Use a test lamp on the wires to the horn and see if it lights up when you press the horn, if so you know for sure it is just the horn its self that has gone wrong.
My horn stopped working a few years back now, understandably as I had dunked it under water regularly!
I replaced it with an offering from my local car spares place for a tenner. It is a much deeper and manlier tone than the original one!
