Electrical nightmare was created by blackpaint
Hi I have recently taken my 2003 O2 to have a new matrix fitted at the local garage. They did a great job and I am fully aware that this can be a tedious job dismantling airbags, dash etc.
The problem I have now that the brake lights are on constantly and although it seems as if something has been rec connected incorrectly I can't just go pointing the finger. They are willing to take a look but can't book it in for 10 days then with the inevitable few days work I will be without the Jimny for a couple of weeks.
Question: is there anything I can do as a quick fix to get it road legal. Removing the bulbs is not an option as I need to maneuver just to get on and off the drive safely.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated as I really need the car for work (self employed) and I was relying on it over the easter break to get me, the wife and the the mountain bikes up in the hills.
regards
BP

Its possible that the pedal switch is incorrectly adjusted look up the back of the dash and follow the brake pedal, you should see a switch to the top at a guess it will need adjusting so that when the pedal is in its resting position the switch is fully depressed.something like that anyway hard to explain if you dont know what your looking for.will see if i can get a pic of mine.

guess you could try pulling the heater fuse (22) and see what happens,

could be they've miss-wired something

worth a shot

if no joy, maybe pull all non-essential fuses and see what happens

;)

Take a look at the switch as gaz suggests, it is likely broken off or unclipped.

If you disconnect the wiring plug from the switch, the brake lights should go out anyway.

IIRR, the brake lights work without the ignition, so likely your battery is flat by now. :pinch:

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Sorry about this guys but in my desperate panic I made a big mistake. It is not the brake lights but the reverse lamps which are fixed on. Thanks to Mrs BP for pointing that one out. You can see how much pressure I am under.
Cheers
