Best way to get more power is...?

The other thing with a Jimny is don't be afraid to drive it hard! The Jimny 1.3 is a great little thing really and like all 16valve engines loves to rev. Unlike flat-as-a-pancake diesels, the power builds all the way to the red-line. Shifting at 3000rpm it'll always feel poo because you are only using about 40hp but let it rev to 5000 and it goes a lot better. Take it all the way to the limiter and the gears match up nicer than a lot of 'fast' cars I've driven- it's quite a pleasure to thrash around really!
Drop it down a gear or 2 for overtakes and hills. 3rd is good for 70mph, so great for passing lorries.

If you want more power/torque to help overcome the effects of more weight and larger tyres then the 1.6 swap is the cheapest and most effective option (ignoring gears). Personally I was quite happy with the G16B swap and didn't feel the need to pursue even more power, my current Jimny will get an M16 and a remap and that will be enough.

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.

So what happens when you've fitted the 1.6 and 4branch ect and still want more power !!
Is it really worth the expense of a high lift cam and head work for the possible gains ???
I priced up a set of cams at over £700 and they recommend changing valve springs ect which is all extra cost then it needed a remap to run so another £500+ and while head is stripped you might as well get that done so a couple more hundred for a few bhp ???

You need another engine swap! This time to something more powerful and tuneable out of the box.

The Mk3 Mazda MX5 engine and gearbox would be a good option. The 2.0l makes 160hp. The 5 speed gearbox will be easier to fit than the wider 6 speed. You are looking at £2k by the time you get an engine, gearbox and ECU to run it all, but that's more power than you'll ever get out of the Suzuki 1.6.

There are loads of other options though for light weight, high output engines that have RWD gearboxes readily available- Rover K-series, Ford Duratec, Sigma or Ecoboost, any BMW 4cyl, Mazda RX8 rotary. It's just a case of how much you want to spend and how much work you want to put in.

G16B with G13B twin cam head from swift gti supposedly gives around 130 bhp. Probably more with some mods.

Assuming your's is a twin cam- £300 for a Liana engine, £50-100 for gaskets, oil and sundries and probably 10 hours labour max. If you have an engine hoist/ jcb it's fairly straight forward to do yourself.
It'll bump your insurance up a bit but other than that it's all winning!
