Likely to solve clutch slip by adjusting it or bite the bullet for a new clutch?

The bite point is now v low, was right at the top before. The top 3-4 inches of pedal travel now has virtually no resistance, it's only the bottom of the travel that feels like it's doing the work, Is that normal?
Only thing I've found is that when changing gear and lifting back off the clutch pedal the pedal now has the habit of banging as I let it up too quickly due to the lack of resistance at the top end of its travel.
He was able to free off the clutch cable by the bell housing and adjust the cable- truth be told though I'm confused about that this actually adjusts.... Pedal height or just the bite point?
I prefer my biting point low off road as when I'm hanging in my seat I don't want to be holding my clutch leg in the air whilst trying to carefully make the clutch bite. Being low it gets it over and done with.
It just adjusts the bite point.

On this diagram
It's confusing to work out what the actual correct pedal height should be- I think from where the pedal height is normally to where it sits when fully depressed is about right- I.e 140mm
The free travel from the top to where I feel resistance is about 50mm. Should I leave this be or adjust the cable? I guess the only thing is all that'll do is bring the biting point higher?
