standard jimny - for now
new starter motor slow turning over was created by robs5230
I've been trying to isolate a few problems I've been having and got round to the starter motor. the jimny turns over very slowly but eventually fires and runs. I have noticed a small wire on to the back of the starter on a spade connection appears to be loose.
is this the power feed to the starter and would it cause slow turning over if loose ?
the starter was new 6 months ago and I have just replaced the main battery. all connections to the battery are good. the battery is good and charges when running at over 14.5v and holds charge perfectly.
thanks

The little spade connection is the trigger wire from the ignition. The big cable bolted on is the power. Check the earth to the engine block

It's the wire that connects the action of turning the key to start to trigger the solenoid to spin the starter.

the small wire is only a trigger so fixing this (even though it may be needed) will not make the starter turn faster.. that's down to a good battery, good starter and good connections on both the earth and the big positive feed from the battery...
what you might be finding (I had this on my RS2000 escort) is that the engine/chassis earth is so weak that it uses the thin one from the solenoid which is not up to the job!...
I'd tell you to simulate first a good earth then second a good supply using a jump lead but this is a little dodgy so be careful if you do.. (arc welding time!)
whatever this is its heavy duty and/or expensive!
