Thanks for this minitehnicus - it partially answers my related question on interchangeability too I guess

. Or could the 6-ball CV joint shaft replace the newer 8-ball shaft if the end splines and shaft lengths/diameters are the same?

old and new style are interchangeable.
it seems the new one are a little bit stronger.

If they changed them in May 2008 my cv joints ought to be the old 6-ball style then (March 2007 model) - I'll find out this evening. Either way, that's very helpful - I'm not sure whether the shaft is also too damaged, so I may end up having to buy a used one as a replacement rather than refurbing the cv joint - which is why I wanted to know that whatever I buy (provided fairly recent i.e. from 2002) will fit! Thanks again for the info.

Just to confirm - my CV joints (2007 model) are the 8-ball bearings type. I'm going to try and get one of the CV joint kits Minitehnicus listed.
