Maxxis MT764 vs Insa Special Trax was created by unionjack30
Hi All,

I'm after reviews or opinions or Mud Tires sized 235 75 15.
I have been looking at the common Insa turbo special Trax, I guess they must be good if everyone uses them.
However I have seen some Maxxis tires I like the look of.

I currently use 215 75 15 BfG mud terrain, but there not cutting it.

My Jimny is used purely for off road, i want something aggressive. I don't care for noise of fuel consumption.

Thanks. :)

if you trailer it then dumper tyres are unbeatable

for road legal:

TSL boggers are best for mud but very expensive

maxxis trepador M8060 are also popular but competition versions are only available in larger sizes (37")
there is a 30" & 31" versions with less sticky rubber

otherwise special tracks or similar (kaimens etc) are good

For mud only, as Darth says, there's only one tyre, TSL Bogger :) But it's not particularly good in sand and other soft/light types of terrain. I'd probably stick with the Simex copies like Insa Turbo special track or brands with same pattern. There is however a Bogger-copy made by Fedima called Trail Ade. Priced much like the Special Tracks.

The Maxxis Trepador Competition have become very popular for comp use, but mostly on high powered trucks, they also come in 35" and 40" but still too tall for a Jimny :D . I suspect they require a good deal of power and wheel rotation speed to keep the tyre tread clean. The special tracks have a more open tread and easier to clean.

The maxxis MT764 is standard M/T tyre like the BFG KM2 and similar :)

I am in this exact predicament myself !!! have been battling over what tires for over a week now lol i think for remolds it has come down to 2 Malatesta Kaiman, because it is a widely well known capable tire but in 31" i'm concerned its slightly to aggressive for a 1300 jimny and these rather than insa s as they have more side lugs more like the original simex. or Recip trial s now i know there have been mixed reviews on these some people had problems but alot of people haven't and they perform exceptionally well due to the directional tread pattern and there not so aggressive so work will with the 1300 as the engine can spin them up

non re molds i have been looking at mickey thompson baja claws tc and cooper st t both seem very good but just maybe not quite aggressive enough :-/

decision decisions lol i think im going to go with the recips, eventually when i take the plunge lol

As you have a 6.5:1 transfer box, you can easily go with 31" special tracks :)
But really no reason to go bigger.
