blanked the egr off today and the engine is running a lot better
and eml not on
what I did is took the exhaust manifold off
found a m6 dome head bolt ground the head down so it was a tight fit in the little tube
on the manifold approx. 12mm hole taped it in and refitted the manifold
been for a 10 mile drive no light on and runs a lot better and ticks over better
this is the twin cam engine
you could put a small core plug in it if you had 1
the tick over was very lumpy sometimes
and when I pulled up at a give way the revs went right down but did not cut out
but not all the time
also a misfire when the revs were low

Mmmmmmm mine does that, do you have any pics of what you done?sounds simple enough just not sure what tube your on about.
Did you make sure it was working properly first? the engine will run better with a working EGR and it is not active at idle so it shouldn't affect tickover unless its sticking. Have you driven it far? you will usually throw a code when you decelerate for an extended period of time because that's when EGR is tested.
