I'm looking at buying a hydraulic press to do the bearings. Does anyone know the length of the longest half-shaft? I want to make sure the press has enough clearance to manage it.

Why not measure on the outside of the axle, from end of axle to diff housing?

You won't get the exact measurement. But I'm pretty sure it will do :)

Good thinking, but at the time I was away from the motor. I shall go measure now that I'm back!

Looks like I'll need around 90cm. Measured from the bolt pattern to the centre of the diff.

If you have a big freezer you could probably press the new bearings on just by hand, by putting the shaft in the freezer overnight, and give the bearing 30-40 minutes in the oven a 200c.

I did that with the front wheel bearing. It slipped right into the hub without force or use of tools.
