Fully synthetic engine oil. was created by Towser
Good evening all. Can anybody give me a yes/no answer to this question please as my head is now buzzing after searching the net. I have a 2001 M13a Jimny. I thought i would splash out on some good quality oil and was told 10-30 Fully synthetic oil would be good for and older engine, It's on it's way but i am now doubting my choice and would hate to seize the engine. Hope you can help and i hope somebody else has been using it. Cheers.

In mine it just says prefered 10-30 with a wide range of specs but things have moved on in 13 years with Magna tech and all kinds of magic oils on the market. It's very confusing and conflicting info out there, I was just hoping to treat the old lump to a drop of good stuff in hope of keeping it running for another few years and possibly getting a few more miles to the gallon. I think i will send the new oil back and just put the snake oil in it ! Cheers for the reply.

It won't do any harm if it meets the spec (which it will no doubt exceed by several generations). The only car I know that NEEDS mineral oil is a Mazda RX-8, because synthetic oil doesn't burn cleanly enough, and that car burns a lot of oil.

The main thing that worried me is in one article it said that fully synthetic is so good and has detergents in it to clean the crap out of the channels but can also clean the crap from around oil seals. So an engine that has no leaks (Like mine) Can develop leaks after all the rubbish had been dispersed !! Mmmmm.
