Generaly something will break if you wind the transmission up enough!! Not sure whats likely to break first, transfer box or diff.what happens when you engage 4wd when stationary?do you hear the click click of the hubs engaging?

Have you ever had it in 4wd yourself?

It could be a broken transfer box mount combined with a vacuum leak.

You need to have a look though or we are pissing in the wind, so to speak!

How do i check the mount on tranny?

As could be mount plus vac hubs ..

I have the manuals but need cone washers for them :-(

Damn weather lol

If we have a break in weather today I'll squeeze under, grab the box and see if any movement AND look for these obvious signs you mention lol got my little legoman torch

Gonna throw it out there but may be well off the mark, could it be a UJ thats knackered and banging around?

Have you checked the vacum hoses as you could have snagged one.
