Free-flow exhaust pipe/muffler on a Jimny? Useful?

Hi.

Would there be any performance benefit to installing larger diameter/radius exhaust pipes and muffler to the Jimny? I believe they call those "Free-flow exhaust systems."

If there is a performance boost, will the vehicle need some type of engine fine-tuning at the dealer after installation?

Thanks in advance.

Probably should be yes. Standard exhausts sap power by how they achieve muffling. Most big bore users tend to go for the power but it will dent economy if so. Biggest problem I have found it fitting one. Lots have done it and they use the cherry bomb boxes straight out of the back. Nice but it needs too much work for my lazy ass.

I would say that if you go 'big-bore' with your exhaust then also add a free flowing air filter like a K&N so that your helping the flow.. Fueling wise for this small change I would imagine the ecu would compensate with the fueling based on feedback from sensors etc...

If you were adding a lumpier cam (does anyone make one?) then you might need to go up on injectors or change the mapping....

like said above if a free flowing exhaust is added you want a performance air filter,

even still the gains will be minimal, the engine may feel to rev slightly easier but it terms of power gains it wouldnt be noticable,

the jimny ecu as far as i know is not mapable and would need a new standalone system which just doesnt become cost effective at all

Not sure on this but maybe adding larger injectors (baleno 1.6?) should add more fuel for the period they are open.. All a bit trial and error though... I also heard the ECU is not mappable but this might just be a case of low demand..

Power gains will be minimal. The only place you'd see any improvement would be over about 5,000rpm.

For genuine performance improvements the cheapest option for a twin cam Jimny is swapping to a Liana 1.6 engine. They are about £300 (same as a full exhaust) and a very easy swap.
