You might need the fault code reader in the bigjimny shop. The ebay code readers do not work on all the G series engines.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

If it is the single cam engine, you can use a jumper wire to make the lamp flash out the codes, have a search around for the info.
If you want a guess, and the car seems to run ok (may use a bit more fuel though) , the exhaust sensor on the engine manifold is the most likely culprit.

Just played about with the fuses under the bonnet and its cleared the light.

Did you unplug the fuse for the EFI, if you did then you would have erased the ECU memory, you may find the CEL will come back on once the ECU has run through its checks.
