Just a thought, could be a electronics issue. Advance and retard are usually controlled via the ECU with signals from the crank sensor (there may be other input sensors as well on the Jimny).

I have had bad experiences with Tescos normal unleaded in 2 modern fuel injected cars now, my Jimjam & my Mrs 325i E46 BMW.
Going on from what Mark rightly says about a hot spot, this could be created by it running lean. I'm thinking air flow meter reading more air than is going in or similar. What colour are the plugs. Do they show signs of lean running? This would explain the low idle speed & cutting out.

thanks.. I'll look over it again and check the plugs too.. I also tried to narrow down lean running by checking for air leaks in the intake side of the engine... thought the hub system was prime candidate as it did change when I removed and blocked the connection to the engine.. but not enough..
anyone got a code reader near DE6 ?
I live on a 1:6 hill so I need to get this sorted
