Got it back from the garage today, he couldn't find anything wrong. Like Kirynut he suspected it was running lean, but it wasn't. At least I've got peace of mind now. I do trust this garage, gone there for years, never heard a bad word about it, which is saying something in a small town like this where everyone knows everybody else's business.
However it is not now making it's pinking type noise? Only thing I can think of that's different is the weather has now gone colder, it was making the noise during the abnormally hot weather in the summer. Maybe I'm just clutching at straws now?
Only new thing is that it was leaking coolant from the top radiator hose where it goes onto the radiator, this is only in the last couple of weeks. New clip sorted it. No sign of coolant in the oil at all. I told the garage about this.
